Announcement to the Congregation of Christ Church Mexico City from the Rector Search Committee
The Search Committee is delighted to announce the selection of the Reverend Doctor Matthew T. Seddon as the next Rector of Christ Church Mexico City. The Vestry has unanimously approved our recommendation, and Bishop Carlos Touché Porter has endorsed our call.
Father Matt holds Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral degrees in anthropology from the University of Chicago. During his first career as an archaeologist, he conducted field studies in Peru, Bolivia, and the American West. He received his Master of Divinity from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, California, and has also received training in Clinical Pastoral Education at St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Father Matt is a lifelong Episcopalian. As a seminarian, he traveled to Mexico to deepen his understanding of the church in Mexico. He visited Christ Church and was struck by our diversity, multicultural context, and inclusive, intellectual, and warm character. Father Matt particularly enjoys helping diverse churches become one in Christ. Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, he served as Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Austin, Texas, where he added culture-specific services including Las Posadas, Via Crucis, a bilingual Christmas pageant, a British-style Epiphany trifle party, and a British Harvest festival. He has also served as the Vicar of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, a bilingual, multicultural church in West Valley City, Utah.
We are very excited about the many gifts Father Matt brings us as we move into the next stage of our life together. This will truly be a time of celebration for our congregation to welcome Father Matt, his wife Dr. Heather Stettler, and their daughter Sadie into the parish of Christ Church.
