In memoriam. Longtime Christ Church members Vivian Oakley Greensill and Jane Ruíz died
this past week. A lifelong parishioner who had served on the Vestry, Ms. Greensill, age 76, and
her husband of 54 years, Richard Atherton, had lived near Cuernavaca for some years and thus
were not known to some. Ms. Ruíz, Jackie Gay’s aunt, was recalled as “a great stalwart of the
church.” Age 96, she long contributed knitting and other works of love with her hands to the
Christmas bazaar and other sales. And week before last brought the passing of “Magda” Acosta,
also age 96, another member of long decades.
An observer who is member of a few years spoke of how she and her husband enjoyed watching
the interactions of such longtime members and “noticing the closeness that only a church
friendship can bring.”
It is a deep regret that we cannot in this pandemic send them off as they deserve and as would be
good for us, too. May they rest in peace. Amen.
