Annual Meeting and The Search
Planning is under way for our annual Parish meeting, while the Search Committee for our next Rector reports that it already has heard from several promising candidates.
Under our bylaws, our annual meeting – at which new Vestry members are elected and other collective business is conducted – must take place by the end of February. The precise date in this plague year remains under consideration.
Of course, all this for now still must occur over Internet connections because of the continuing Coronavirus pandemic.
So.
There’s a relevant parliamentary lesson below, but probably of greatest interest is that the Search Committee expects that in the next several weeks, it will begin interviewing candidates for the Rector to guide us forward.
Any candidate recommended by the committee must be approved by the Vestry and accepted by the Bishop, or if our now-retired Bishop has not yet been replaced, by the Standing Committee of the Diocese.
As another practical matter of our continuing communal life, the Nominating Committee will propose a slate for election to the Vestry and possibly other non-religious changes in how we do what we do.
In Anglican comity, the Vestry is the group elected by the congregation to be led by the Rector under the authority of the Bishop to attend to mostly non-ecclesiastical matters in guiding the parish.
Both our Senior Warden Jennifer Holden (named by the Rector) and Junior Warden Carolina Rivera (elected by the parish meeting) have another year of their current two-year terms.
Our Nominating Committee chaired this year by Vestry member Frances Bruton additionally comprises Jackie Gay, Adolfo Crespo, Anne Meyer, and Senior Warden Holden. Bruton reports that the committee has identified worthy candidates, but has not yet made recommendations to the Vestry.
The Nominating Committee must make its proposals to the Vestry no later than four weeks before the parish meeting. What the Vestry recommends must be made known to the congregation by three weeks before the Annual Meeting.
Independent nominations for election to the Vestry may be made in writing, as well as from the floor at the Annual Meeting.
A final important reminder this week about Parish business: When you pay your pledge or make any financial donation online, please inform our parish accountant Edgar Gómez at accounts@christchurch.mx or by telephone at the parish office, 55 5202-0949 or 55 5520-3763. Limited information about the source of deposits appears in most bank accounts in Mexico, including ours.
