Update to our Commuinity

Mother Elisabeth Sinclair

Aug 28, 2021

What's new at Christ Church this week?

We've had some delightful visitors in the last couple of months who have so far decided to stay with us! Please extend a warm welcome to Ben, Taiwo, Sonja, Stephen & Karen, Winnie & Nicola, and any others you've noticed whose names we may not yet know. We are so very happy for the opportunity to get to know you and worship with you.

We have a colorful new sign on our entry gate advertising next week's English book sale (from many different literary genres), Sept. 2nd-5th, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Action requested: Please spread the word to your family members, friends, and coworkers, so that this can be a profitable and fun enterprise.

Would you like to join together for a meal and faith formation event with family and/or friends who are already in your "Covid bubble"? Here is a link to an interactive, at-home (possibly virtual, too, if enough people would like that option) program we're considering for the month of October, but we need to know who is interested: At the Table (please see: https://www.diowestmo.org/formation/at-the-table.html). Action requested: Please send Rev. Elisabeth an email indicating your interest and whether you can form your own group or need assistance for a virtual group: lizzy_sinclair1110@yahoo.com.

Our diocesan delegates (Adolfo Crespo, Luz María, Curt Hartebein, and Jennifer Holden), along with several other parishioners from Christ Church and St. Paul's in San Miguel de Allende, met last week with our bishop candidates M. Sally Sue and P. Oscar Estéban to learn more about them and ask them questions regarding their vision for our diocese. The other churches in our diocese will meet with the candidates through the upcoming month. Stay tuned for more information as we approach the election on November 6th. You can also follow the process at: DIÓCESIS DE MÉXICO - ELECCIÓN DE OBISPO DIOCESANO (please see: https://www.eleccionepiscopal2021.org.mx/)

Do you have a favorite memory of Christ Church? Is there something you particularly love (and/or miss) about Christ Church? Are you willing to describe it in detail to share with the parish--either in 150 written words or in a 1-2 minute video clip? Action requested: Please send ASAP to Mary Rosa at mrosacasar@hotmail.com. Note: These will be shared via email and social media, unless you specify otherwise.
We're exploring the possibility of offering architectural tours of Christ Church. Do you know some fascinating tidbits that you could share (along with a credible source)? Do you have a community connection to help us market this opportunity when the time comes? Do you know someone you consider to be a fabulous tour guide? Action requested: Please contact Rev. Elisabeth ASAP.

Our seminarians Antonio Pacheco and Adrian Cajiga, whom we share with churches in Hidalgo, have had to close in-person services there because the whole city is in lockdown due to the severity of the pandemic. Please pray for our seminarians' spiritual encouragement and protection.

What's old at Christ Church this week?

We are still meeting in person for masked and vaccinated people at 9:30 a.m. (English) and 1:00 p.m. (Spanish), while the 11:00 a.m. (English) service is virtual only and can be watched at your convenience, since it is usually uploaded by the previous Saturday evening. We will continue this schedule through the end of August and then revisit the decision.

We still ask you to reserve a spot in the in-person services with MaryRosa by phone or email by Wednesday at 6 p.m. before the service you wish to attend. If you forget to register in advance, you are still welcome to come, though you may need to sit outside on the patio in the unlikely event that we have a "full house." Unvaccinated, masked guests are also welcome to sit outdoors, where it is still possible to hear the service.

Community Zoom offerings (See links below):
a. Sunday morning coffee hour at 11:00 a.m.
b. Monday Evening Prayer at 7:00 p.m. (approximately 30 minutes)
c. Wednesday Noonday Prayer at 12:00 p.m. (approximately 15-20 minutes)
