Rev. Elisabeth Sinclair
Nov 24, 2022
Are you a visitor this Sunday? We are so happy you came, and we would love to get to know you better. Please consider staying for the special Nigerian Thanksgiving meal in the Parish Hall after today’s service and/or returning for tonight’s 6:30 p.m. piano concert.
Dear Parents – No Sunday school today, but children may play outside at the craft table—with parent supervision, please. We are still looking for parents and others to help us build a consistent Sunday school program for children. If you can help, even just once/month, please speak with Rev. Elisabeth ASAP.
Facemasks continue to be recommended but are no longer required at Christ Church. Please take care of your own (and others’) health by staying current on vaccinations, keeping a safe distance from others, staying in ventilated areas whenever possible, and frequently washing/sanitizing your hands.
**In continuing celebration of our “More Than Enough” stewardship campaign to help us plan our budget for 2023, we invite you to submit your blue pledge/promise card in the offering basket by December 11th, when we will offer them to God in love and faith.
New Faith Reflection & Formation class through the 4 Sundays of Advent (11/27-12/18), beginning TODAY: “Creation and Stewardship: A Personal Advent Perspective,” facilitated by Chris Stephens, UNAM Physics professor.
Class Location: White Room, Christ Church
Time: Immediately following the 11am service.
Format: One-hour (bilingual) talks with open discussion
Content Description: Creation in all its varied forms – the universe, nature, art etc. – is a common element between God and humanity. God created, and creates, and so does humanity. Advent reminds us of a unique creation event – the birth of Jesus and the incarnation of God the Son. Starting from the basic premise, of course, that God exists, in these talks I will discuss how the desire and need of humans to understand God’s creation - what has been created by God – has led us to create our own gods to explain that creation, including what we think and believe is the real God. Understanding creation, the creative act and its implications – both theologically and scientifically – is essential.
This combination of theological and scientific thinking is also essential for understanding how we stand with respect to God’s and humanity’s creations – our responsibilities and duties and what we can and should do from a stewardship point of view. In this aspect I will discuss why “good” people make “bad” decisions, as such decisions are behind all of humanity’s principal problems – climate change, war, gender violence, poverty, etc. Finally, I will discuss what we can do as individuals, as Christians, and as members of Christ Church to safeguard God’s creation.
