In Memoriam: JOHN BRUTON: 1937-2021
John Bruton, a mighty and beloved oak in our Christ Church community for decades, died Wednesday night, June 16, in New Orleans.
He had been in ill health in recent months, and Frances, his wife of 61 years, was with him when he died, of an infection.
Born in Mexico, John was a graduate of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, in the United States.
Long a steady force in our parish, he for some years had been chairman of our Finance Committee, the parish’s finance watchdog and overseer.
In his professional life, John was executive vice president and CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico for 30 years, and publisher of its magazine Business Mexico for more than 20 years. He more recently headed the Mexico City office of a prominent U.S.-based business strategic-consulting firm.
Besides Frances, he is survived by their children Mac, Alec, and Brinley, and five grandchildren.
A small service in New Orleans was planned, with a memorial service to follow here in a few months.
