OUTREACH MINISTRIES
A primary ministry of Christ Church is providing food, school supplies, and kitchen appliances and utensils to children at Casa Hogar Divina Providencia, an orphanage for children with physical and/or cognitive disabilities. (See https://www.facebook.com/ladivinaprovidencia/ for more information about the orphanage.)
We have financially supported several diocesan initiatives in 2023 and 2024, including a coffee/snack/prayer ministry by La Parroquia de la Sagradda Familia to families whose loved ones are in a local hospital; a ministry by the diocesan staff, called Alebrijes, which cultivates friendship and spiritual support for women; the rehabilitation of a historic Anglican property in Nopala, Hidalgo, so that it may be used as a Center of Anglican Spirituality & Hospitality; etc.
On Tuesday evenings at 6:15 PM we offer a free beginners English class. All are welcome. (Please note, the Tuesday class this week (December 3rd) has been moved to Wednesday, December 4th). We provide monthly concerts showcasing a wide variety of musical artists. Highlights from these concerts can be seen at the bottom of our home page here. In 2023, we invested in a new children's playground.
We provided water & flavored water (Courtesy of Kim Grover & DrinkPlus https://www.facebook.com/DrinkPlusMx) for the national march on Mother's Day of Mexican women searching for their disappeared loved ones. Other ministries involve participation in reforestation projects and assistance to local animal shelters.
We prepared 100 bags of groceries (rice, spaghetti, cooking oil, black beans, boxed milk, tuna, etc.) in collaboration with All Saints Episcopal Church in Palo Alto, CA, and La Parroquia de la Santa Cruz y de la Soledad, for refugees living in tent camps. We also provided crisis financial gifts for 2 Christ Church families and assistance to 3 Haitian refugees who successfully and legally entered the United States.
It is our honor and privilege to provide meeting and/or office space for organizations such as Alcohólicos Anónimos (AA), the American Benevolent Society, psychologists, an acupuncturist, and a massage therapist.
If you know of social, spiritual, and/or material needs in the Lomas de Chapultepec neighborhood, please submit a proposal to our church office, Attn: The Rev. Elisabeth Sinclair, so that we can consider if/how we might get involved.
OUTREACH MINISTRIES pre-COVID 19, currently on hiatus
Every Friday at 2:00PM, we shared in offering a service of Healing and Holy Eucharist at the Anglican Cathedral of San José de Gracia in the historic center of the city at 139 Mesones (between Pino Suarez and Correo Mayor — metro Pino Suarez). Following the service, volunteers offered a free meal to guests. This community ministry is known as Santa Juliana de Norwich, Diocesan partners with Christ Church occasionally addressed other community needs by providing health fairs, food baskets, and medicine.
Christ Church also had an informal outreach to the patients and their families at the Hospital General. Every Monday a team of clergy and laity visited the Sala de Emergencias, offering prayers, pastoral care, and a simple supper for patients, their families, and hospital workers.
