Did you notice our youth ushers today? Thank you to Alix and her team of Ushers for training these young men to help with the important role of welcoming and assisting parishioners and guests! And thank you, Jay, and Alvaro, for your participation and willingness to learn and serve. “The Sticky Faith group at Fuller Youth Institute have studied the reasons young people walk away from the church, looking for a “silver bullet” for churches and parents to use to keep that from happening. While there was no “silver bullet” churches that encouraged intergenerational connections and worship and youth that felt involved and connected to the larger church had a much greater chance of remaining in church post high school. (The findings can be found here). Additionally, they found that time spent talking and living faith in the home was the biggest indicator of a faith that sticks in kids. According to Jim Burns at HomeWord ministries, kids that talk about their faith at home with mom and dad have a 80% chance of remaining in church once they leave the home. The Rt. Rev. Alba Sally Sue Hernandez will visit us on Sunday, June 29th, when she will officiate baptisms, confirmations, and receptions. To attend the required preparation classes, contact The Rev. Susan Dennen-Rodriguez, and meet her in the White Room 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. these Sundays: 11, 18, 25, June 1 & 15 (No Class June 8th because of Pentecost celebrations).
This is the last call for children hoping to celebrate their First Communion when the Bishop visits. We will meet on Sundays, May 18th & 25th and June 1st, 1:00-2:15 p.m. in Rev. Elisabeth’s office. Please contact Rev. Elisabeth immediately if your child is interested.
Congratulations to parishioners Oscar Roux and Lupita Dainzú, who got married at Christ Church last Saturday, May 3rd. Congratulations, also, to parishioners Zach McKie and Marlene Bolanos, on the birth of their son this week! We rejoice with you! May God bless, keep, and guide you in these new and holy vocations of marriage and parenting.
Good news: Luke Plein, junior Yale University student, will join us from May 19th-July 3rd to help with some administrative & ministry projects, grow his Spanish language skills, and companion the young adult ministry. Stay tuned for more information.

“In her analysis of this text in The New Interpreter’s Bible (Abingdon Press, 1996), Gail O’Day brings up an important point of clarification: The Jews in this story refers to the Jewish religious establishment. Likely, the majority of people involved in this story were Jewish. And this reading is the only time in the Gospel of John when Jesus is asked directly if he is the Messiah. The Samaritan woman questions Jesus’ possible identity as the Messiah, and Martha proclaims that Jesus is, but this is the only time in this gospel when Jesus is asked directly.
Notice, however, that Jesus does not claim in his answer that he is the Messiah, for his answer shows that he is much more than just the anointed one. Instead, as Ernst Haenchen explains in John 2 (Fortress Press, 1984), Jesus goes on to discuss the nature of his relationship with God, how he and God are unified in purpose and goal. This is how Jesus and God are ‘one.’
Much in the same way that “goodness and mercy” will always pursue the writer of Psalm 23, Jesus says that his sheep will never be snatched out of his hand. The resurrected Christ gives us the blessing of eternal life, and once it is given, we can never lose it.

Prayer for moms: Creator, thank You for the sacred role of motherhood since the beginning of time. Bless every mother with purpose and dignity; courage to be all you have created her to be; and grace to accept her and others’ limitations. The world would be so much smaller and less beautiful without you in it. Remember, always, that the Lord is your help and your salvation, a strong tower and refuge to all who seek Him.
